Radical Prostatectomy

Radical prostatectomy is the surgical removal of the entire prostate gland, along with surrounding tissue and often nearby lymph nodes. Surgery is typically considered the gold standard treatment for localized prostate cancer, especially in younger men with longer life expectancy. Modern techniques, particularly robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy using the da Vinci system, have significantly improved outcomes and reduced recovery time. The procedure provides complete pathological staging and excellent long-term cure rates for localized disease. During the surgery, the entire prostate gland and seminal vesicles are removed, and the urethra is reconnected to the bladder. Lymph nodes may also be removed to check for cancer spread.
